Which Antenna & How Many Connections?

Hi,

I’m using the 3g/4g&LTE HAT on a Raspberry Pi 5. There are 3 connectors for the antenna. Does that mean I need to buy 3 of these if I want a external antennas rather than those that come with the HAT?

Put another way, here is what ships with the HAT:

  • LTE Full Band PCB Antenna – u.FL Plug – 100mm
  • LTE – GNSS Dual PCB Antenna – 100mm

What what antenna is suitable for outdoor use? How many should I use?

  1. Main LTE Connector: This is the primary antenna for LTE connectivity.
  2. Diversity LTE Connector: This antenna improves reception and provides better signal stability.
  3. GNSS (GPS): This antenna is dedicated to GPS signals.
  • LTE Full Band PCB Antenna: Designed for LTE use, this antenna connects to the main LTE connector.
  • LTE-GNSS Dual PCB Antenna: This antenna supports both LTE (for the diversity connector) and GNSS (for GPS functionality).

If you’re planning to use external antennas for improved reception outdoors, you can replace the provided antennas with outdoor-grade ones.
