Problem Setting Up Raspberry Pi 4 + 4G LTE HAT with QMI

Hello,

I am using a raspbian Yodeck image, and I was able to SSh into it and now I am trying to setup internet connectivity via QMI. I am following the tutorial here:

Everything works perfectly, up until I do:

sudo udhcpc -v -i wwan0

It just shows:

udhcpc: started, v1.30.1
No resolv.conf for interface wwan0.udhcpc
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover
udhcpc: sending discover

It shows sending discover, over and over, and I am not sure how to debug this as it’s not showing verbose logs and everything else works fine.

I appreciate any type of guidance or feedback on this, I can also get on a Zoom or Discord call to make helping easier.

Thank you!

Nicolas

Hi,

Did you go through the troubleshooting guide:

Whichever module you are using, the AT commands at the end of the guide will help you.

Hi Ensar,

Thank you for your reply!

I am using the Sixfab CORE, so I used the install script provided from the dashboard, all worked fine, but I cannot get a connection via wwlan0 / cellular.

In order to help you help me, here are the results from the support guide:

I noticed based on the dmesg | grep tty command, that my modem is cycling or disconnecting and then reconnecting over and over again, is this normal behavior? Is this happening because it cannot find a connect?

Thanks for the detailed results.

If you are already using Sixfab CORE, you must not follow the QMI tutorial. Otherwise, it will conflict. The device is registered on the network, the signal quality is good, the modem has an IP address assigned by the network and configured PDP contexts, including the APN names.

Yes, CORE services may have rebooted your module to restore your cellular connection.

Oh ok, so thats good at least its connecting, but i guess its rebooting because of the conflict with QMI? I did intially set it up with QMI and later discovered the core setup instead.

How can i disable the QMI to precent any conflicts?

I have done a clean install and there is no QMI, and its still not working, I am experiencing the same problem as here: IoT hat disconnecting and reconnecting rapidly - #5 by zskatona

This seems to be a serious problem of the hardware, because I am using a 40 W Raspberry Pi 4 power supply, with no other peripherals, so the modem should have more than enough power available. I am using the short USB cable that comes with, I tried all USB ports, and it always keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.

This is a serious hardware bug and needs to be resolved ASAP Sixfab; this is unacceptable… I purchased two of these HATs for $125 each, only for none of them to work…

I never got the issue resolved, I just gave up on it…

You don’t have to do anything. So there are two methods for choosing your cellular connection. When you use CORE, it handles everything.

You don’t have any hardware bugs, don’t worry. If there are problems with your cellular connection CORE services may perform a hardware reboot, this is to be expected.

Can you send ping via your cellular interface (wwan0)?

If possible, could you please enable remote-support and PM me your remote-support token or Asset ICCID so I can check and fix it?

Yep, yep with 20 characters.
