Context :
I’m trying to use LTE base HAT + EG25-G on Rpi4.
I get lot of trouble at starting, and I was thinking it was due to bad USB cable.
But now, even with lot of different USB cable, I still have troubles.
So I decided to test the HAT directly on my laptop and get similar troubles :
Depending on cable, or USB port of the laptop, or using an external USB3 powered HUB, results are very differents.
The best way to get it running is : small usb cable, on external USB powered HUB.
Coming back to Rpi, using the same USB cable on Rpi, powered by 65W power supply, and with max_usb_current=1 option activated, the modem is not detected correctly by the Rpi…

Totaly unpredictable…
I still have trouble to get my HAT + EG25 running…
I try to get it running with more configuration :
I use 3 differents power supply : up to 2.5A or 2A
I use 5 differents usb cables of different lengths
I test using Rpi3 and Rpi4
I test with latest RaspberryOS 32b / 64b
I try to run under balenaOS (Linux 717e44e 5.4.83-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Dec 14 12:43:54 UTC 2020 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux)
I test on my Lenovo laptop under Ubuntu 18.04, Windows 10, with or without USB hub.
I also test to plug the HAT only by USB cable (no connection on 40 pins)
In all configuration I have trouble ! It never work perfectly. Connection is not reliable… even on Linux laptop.

What is power consumption ?
What is power plug needed for Rpi ?
Question for Sixfab hardware support :
Can my HAT/Modem be broken ?
There has got to be a problem with the Hat and the RPi4. I am having the exact same issues for the most part. I have a need to use a different USB cable that is a little longer rather than the short cable with the left-angle connectors. I have tried a dozen cables and the only one that works is the little one that comes with the Hat. I just switched over to a Pi 3+ and it seems to work without issue.
I also think there is a problem… but in my case, even with the short cable with left-angle connectors, I also have trouble.
As you said I also try lot of USB cable with same bad results…
I’m still looking for a solution and I cannot get my HAT running correctly right now… neither Rpi3 or Rpi4.
I’m focusing on power requirement due to lot of “dmesg” indicating power trouble. But even with external self power USB hub I have trouble…
So I currently have a HAT+EG25-G that I can’t use for the moment. I’m very disapointing…
Do you know which version of the Pi4 you have? Apparently there was USB power problems. There is a newer version that is supposed to be fixed. I am getting it and should have in a few days. I will reply back here with my outcome.
I just checked my board revision : and it seems to be a v1.2 with USB power fix.
So it doesn’t explain my troubles yet…

Hi, same issue here. When requesting some network operations, the USB connection is lost. I tried more than 10 different cables. But still having the problem.
